If the show is not meant to be shown in 16:9 it shows it in 4:3 by default. I have a 52' samsung and I can only get my HD Channels in 16:9 now with my hdmi cable now if i switched back to AV Cables on my TV remote i have a PSIZE button that switches between 16:9 and 4:3 I have a HDMI cable on mine and i think composite cables do the same thing. Try a widescreen movie through a DVD player and see what you get. Make sure the output of the player is set to 16X9 and not standard.
