my tv has a digital audio output and 2 hd inputs. all i want to hook up is the hd cable and a ps3. i am hoping i can run both into the tv, and run the audio from the tv to a receiver. but i dont know if i need to get a certain receiver or what. i only want to spend $200 to $250 on the receiver. any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, you can run both into the TV. But…Do you have 5.1 speakers? Two speakers? Any speakers? Otherwise why would you want to run everything out to the receiver? So let’s assume you have speakers. You’ll want to run the cable and PS3 to the receiver and then the receiver to the TV. (Ideally you want to do all this with HDMI cables.)

So, what receiver should you get? You’ll need a receiver with one HDMI-out and at least two HDMI-in connections. You already have an HD audio decoder, so you don’t need to spend money on that feature. I own the Onkyo TX-SR606 which I like a lot. However, it’s more than you need and it’s out of your price range. I would recommend searching cnet.com for what you’re looking for. Here’s a link to get you started:

The highest rated product that has all you need is the Harman/Kardon AVR 146. Don’t trust me because I haven’t done the research and don’t trust cnet. Find a list of a few a/v receivers that fit the bill and then do a lot of research. But honestly you’re not going to get a really good A/V receiver for under $350 or so. But I wish you luck.

I think7.1-channel home theater receiver is good for the high-definition revolution with High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) effortlessly transporting sublime video and audio, as well as 7.1-multichannel inputs accepting the most advanced surround sound formats will be avaialable in your market. To connect the HDMI from TV to PS3, just plug one end of the HDMI cable to the PS3 and the other end to the TV. Make sure you have the 1.3 HDMI or otherwise, you might not see anything when you’re using the PS3. I hope this information will be helpful to you.
