How can I take shows I recoreded on a DVR and transfer them to my computer?

Stephen N asked: There is a USB port on the front of the DVR, but the manual says it is only useful for installing a keyboard to type with or other such deviceses. I have the Explorer 8300HD DVR and I can find no instructions on how to transfer recorded shows. Please help.
