My hdtv is only displaying 410i with my dvd player, when it is capable of 720p. How do I get a better picture

hdtv
aguss2222 asked:

My tv is a 26″ inch, westinghouse hdtv. I am using a philips dvd player. I’ve tried component cables and an s-video cable, and both are not showing the high picture quality.

  1. TV guy Says:

Your TV is always scaling its input as needed and displays at 720p - its native resolution.
When you press info or display you see the resolution of the source!! (not the TV).
The typical output resolution of a Standard-def DVD player is indeed 480i. If you have a progressive DVD player and use component cables, you can go up to 480p.
So, don’t worry, your TV works just fine.

  2. He who must hold the remote Says:

A DVD only carries 480 video. Your TV is up-converting the video to the internal 720 format it wants, but it’s still only standard definition magnified.

Ever hear of BluRay or HD-DVD? These disks carry HD video, not standard def.

Your Phillips player is not a HD/BluRay player.
