That first answer is NOT true. The person is referring to the digital transition in 2009. Your antenna WILL continue to work in 2009. It's people with older tv's that cannot accept the digital signal from over the air that will need NOT to replace their antenna but to purchase a digital converter box to use or buy a new tv that has one built in.
Your new HDTV will have the digital tuner built in. Any TV made after March 1, 2007 HAD to have the tuner built in. There are older tv's on the shelves at the stores so be sure to ask the sales person to confirm that it has a digital tuner or ask to look at the manual. for more info on the digital transition set for 2/17/09.
To ansnwer you original question, all you will need is a good antenna and you will recieve any free over the air channnel within range, both HD and SD depending on what the tv stations are broadcasting in your area. You can go to their websites to see is they are HD or SD.
Go to: to help you pick the best antenna for where you live and what tv stations you want to receive.
Good luck and enjoy that new tv!

Most broadcast channels are broadcasting in hd. and YES YOU CAN RECEIVE THE HD SIGNAL WITH AN ANTENNA. You will only receive the network broad cast channels though.

I believe they make special hd antennas now, which will give you better reception of the hd signal, HOWEVER, regular rabbit ears will also receive the hd signal.

You need to find out if your local broadcast channels are already broadcasting in hd.

Your tv will work, yes. You just have to plug it in and hook up your antenna.

Now, to get HD channels, you have to have cable television. Otherwise, your HDTV IS a basic TV that you're spending too much money for to not fully enjoy it's benefits. If you see a non cable station advertise "now available in high definition" you have to go to the high definition channels within a cable box from the cable company.

My advice is to get cable. Or buy a cheap standard tv.

I like VIZIO, btw. Just bought one a few weeks ago.

Very soon antenna's will no longer work. I'd recomend getting Directv sattelite, they have the most HD channels, I have it. Good service, reasonably priced, and like I said a lot of HD channels, be sure and tell them you want the HD equipment, you can call them at 1-800-DIRECTV.

Also, you probably will need a special cable. If your buying it online see what the stores recomend you get with it, if your buying it at a store, ask the salesperson.

Vizio is a great TV but any setting up I'd call their help line. They can answer anything before or after you purchase a television.
