How to hook up a vip722 dvr to your computer?

Hello im a tech junky but cant figure this out. I have a vip722 dvr from dish net. and want to hook it up to my computer to edit and burn to dvd. some one told me you could from the usb port on the dvr and then to your computer. I tried but didn’t have the transfer cable i just made a homemade male to male usb to hook up. if you have any info that could help that would be great, thanks.

    Unfortunatley you can’t do that. Even with the connection there is proprietary software that prevents it. Dishnetwork has recently set it up so that the USB connection can be used to connect to an external hard drive for additional storage of your dvr recordings. They charge a one time 35 dollar fee to enable that function. However if you have a DVD recorder you can easily make dvd’s from the recorded content. I have done that many times myself. Stand alone dvd recorders are available for under 100.00 now days. Hope this helps.

    yea you cant , the only thing use for the usb is a external hard drive ($39.99) one time to activate.. you can use a pocket dish from archos at no charge.. but due to restriction u cant hook it to a computer.sorry
