you have to have the same company for you TV and internet provider. I had that one time. I cancelled it with it two weeks. To me it was not worth the money. I have Dish Network now

  2. RockRatt says:

The USB ports are NOT active on your DVR (DirecTV DVR+)so transfering via connecting it to your wired/wireless network will NOT work. (IF this was a DirecTV Tivo then it is possible).

There are a few ways to get this done though. I have an article I found and posted on in which DirecTV DVR’s can be used with MythTV to enable some functionality. I do NOT have a DirecTV DVR+ so I have NOT been able to try this out. (I have and use DirecTV Tivo units which I can help you out further with). Here is the link to the site where you can read about it and see if this sounds like something you want to try.:–STB–via-USB-or-Serial-using-MythTV/

Another easier option would be to either use a DVD Recorder or TV Tuner Capture Card on a PC. To use a TV Tuner Capture Card you need either a PCI for a desktop or PCMCIA for a laptop PC. Once they are connected via Coaxial, RCA Audio video Cables, or S-Video and RCA Audio Cables you can hit play on the DVR and record on your PC’s software for the Capture Card. This will record in real time, so a 2 hour movie will take 2 hours to transfer. Then you can edit the movie/show and burn it to DVD.
