How can I take shows I recoreded on a DVR and transfer them to my computer?

dvr
Stephen N asked:

There is a USB port on the front of the DVR, but the manual says it is only useful for installing a keyboard to type with or other such deviceses. I have the Explorer 8300HD DVR and I can find no instructions on how to transfer recorded shows. Please help.

I am not sure how your DVR works but with Tivo and DirecTV Tivos the operating system of the DVR’s is a linux based platform and there are ways to use the USB device on the DVR to connect up to a computer network so you can use your computer on that network to play, download, download and record to DVD the movies that are on the DVR’s hard drive. I am not sure if thye have your make or model of DVR but try out this website to see if you can find any more info on your DVR.

2 options that I can think of:

    1) Get a dvd recorder
    2) Get a video input adapter for your computer to capture the video from the dvr
