How can I get the same quality playing videos with an s-video cord from my laptop to my HDTV?
Jon D asked:
I understand that they are two different sizes but the videos I have on my laptop are perfect quality and I would like to play them with the same quality on my HDTV. At this moment I have an S Video cord to transmit the video but it isnt the best quality is there anyway of perfecting it? Thank you.

You are looking at a video on a small computer screen, and then you are playing exactly the same video through and S video cable to your much larger TV and you are suggesting that they don’t look as good on the TV and you do not know why??
You are seeing the same video, but when you blow it up on a larger screen, you are in effect magnifiying all the imperfections which were there all along (but you were not able to see). If your TV has a VGA connection, you might try it. It could not be much worse than the S-video and probably will be better. It all depends what sort of connections your laptop has…
I do not know how long your S-Video cable is and you can always try a better cable… (I resume your laptop does not have any other vi

The pixel density on your laptop screen will be a lot tighter so you’ll have to sit back farther from your HDTV to give the illusion of a finer pixel density.
S-Video is not a very good output cable (composite is even worse). If you were to use a SVGA to component video cable you would gain a little more clarity and a lot more color depth. Even more ideal would be a DVI output and using a DVI to HDMI cable to the TV.

if your tv has a VGA input use that instead, S-video will not look good on your hdtv because its not the best quality. If your laptop has a DVI out put buy a DVI to HDMI cable to get outstandding quality on your tv or even a VGA to DVI converter anything abouve s-video should work
Composite
s-video
Component
VGA
HDMI/DVI

It can’t be done via S-video. S-video is not capable of carrying an HD signal. An SVGA connection would probably look better, because it would be a direct digital connection. Right now, your laptop is converting digital to analog to send over S-video, and your TV is converting the analog back to digital (assuming the TV is not a CRT display). Bypass the digital-to-analog-to-digital steps and you should get a cleaner picture.
