I have had Directv for 12 years now. The satellite locations are roughly the same as far as directing the receiving dish above the horizon. (approx 34 degrees) For the first 10 years I was in one location in the country. The trees got taller over the 10 year period and I lost a lot of signal. I had to raise the dish 7 feet and later trimmed the trees. I also had to relocate the antenna on the opposite end of the house from where the trees were. If you want the reception then you will have to do one or more of the above.

Solution #1

Get HD cable TV service

Solution #2

Find out what kind of TV antenna you would need to get good digital reception. Just because one set top antenna didn't work doesn't mean it can't be done.

You can find out where your local digital TV transmitters are at the first link below. What kind of analog reception did you get with the antenna?

BTW, in North America, all TV antennas are HDTV antenna. The idea that there are special "HDTV antennas" is just marketing hype.

Solution #3

Bribe neighbor who does have line of sight to the satellite.

Solution #4

Trim/cut down offending tree.
