		<description>you do not have to use the cable companies DVR, i have been using my PC as my DVR for quite a while.. 

there are beinfits to using the cable company DVR however, such as picture in picture, and the ability to record one show while watching another, but depending on the DVR that you are choosing to get, you have better options what you can do with your media once recorded, such as transfer it to a portable player, or burn it to disc (depends on what is supported by the DVR you buy)</description>
