Can I tape television programs from an HDTV with a built in tuner?
philvsfuture asked:
The tuner setting is how I view television programs (via a set of rabbit ears) and it doesn’t seem to have any sort of Video/Audio outs. I’m using a good old fashioned VCR and would love to tape some quality public access television for my friends and I. Any advice would be much appreciated!

As a side note, the VCR is typically hooked up via on the Video/Audio ins on the Composite setting.
The television also happens to be an Olevia.

1. Run the coax cable from the wall-socket to the
VCR RF Input. (The cable is male to male)
2. Then run a coax cable from the VCR RF Output to the TV. (The cable is female to male)
3. Put TV on AV channel you have connected to.
(Composite)
4. Now tune the VCR to receive TV channels.
5. To record - put your VCR on channel you wish to record and then press record. If you like you can now take the TV off its AV channel and watch a different free view channel while recording your nominated channel.(Don’t change channel on VCR , change it on TV).
Hope this helps you out and I haven’t confused you too much.

I think I’d get one of the new DVRs….
Or just connect up to the Newer DVDs….
But what I’d really want to do is wait until a really good HD–DVR–DVD burner is created…
And I doubt that will happen…..
As for the VCR….don’t expect it to function too long. You’ll get the OLD TV stations until they shut off the analog signal….

If you are asking if the VCR can record HDTV or DTV programs the TV is receiving, the answer is no, unless you hook up a DTV “set-top” tuner/converter box to the VCR. Then it can record off of that!
You can still tune in analog TV stations on the VCR (until February 2009 that is, assuming you’re in the USA) and record them. Make sure the antenna is hooked up to the VCR’s antenna input. Then tune the program in with the VCR, not the TV.
