I just bout a new Sony Home Theater system, with 5 HDMI ports. And have a PS3, HDTV and regular DirecTV HD reciever. Can they all be hooked up via HDMI through the Surround sound system? And would Monster cables be the best for quality?

Sure, that’s what multiple ports are supposed to be used for. One device per port, one HDMI cable to your TV, and then you use your receiver to switch between them. You will have to use your receiver’s speakers all the time, however, the receiver won’t send an audio signal over HDMI to your TV.
As for cabling, buy your stuff here:
Monster is overpriced by several hundred percent.

I just set up the same kind of system and it took me a couple of days to figure it all out. I had trouble getting the sound from the PS3 through the surround sound. It only has one HDMI output and that goes to the TV. I had to get a digital optical cable and run that from the PS3 into the receiver and now it works great! Try that and the cable I got from Best Buy was only $29.00.

It sounds like what you have is pretty state of the art. Your home theater system will likely either have 3 HDMI in ports and 2 HDMI out ports OR 4 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out ports.
1) Use the HDMI out from the Playstaton 3 and connect it to one of your home theater HDMI in ports.
2) Connect the HDMI out from the Satellite receiver into a second HDMI in port on the home theater.
3) Connect the HDMI out from the home theater to the TV using the HDMI in from the TV.
If you connect it this way, the home theater system will automatically play the sound and transmit video from the same HDMI source when you switch between components.
You can also try it the way the person above me has mentioned, but if you want total HDMI this is another option. If you go to ebay you can find 3 6 foot HDMI cables for $4. That makes it the cheapest and best option for your home theater system.
Good Luck.
